South Africa Travel near Johannesburg

Posted 06-13-2011 at 08:42 AM by puretravel
Those doing South Africa travel should visit Johannesburg’s Apartheid Museum, which is a vivid look at the history of apartheid in South Africa. The museum uses many news clips and panels to explain to the visitor how apartheid affected daily life in South Africa. Many visitors experience a very emotional time, and visitors report that they need at least a half day to process all the information that is presented here, as visitors are led through 22 exhibits that help the visitor understand what apartheid was and how it impacted South Africa.
Another area that should be visited when doing South Africa travel is Rosebank, which has an outstanding flea market. Many people choose to shop here, and the chocolate croissants may be the best in the world. The area has an African craft market where visitors can pick up wonderful bargains, including local paintings, handmade rugs and beautiful beaded tablecloths. For those wanting souvenirs for themselves or their family and friends, this is a great place to shop.
Visitors should also consider a trip to Melville. Melville is located near the University of Johannesburg, and the university students love to party here with some drinks the visitor will find nowhere else in the world. It is also a great place to hang out in the coffee shops and cafes with little tables being set up right on the sidewalk serving a wide variety of food. If the weather is undesirable, the area also has several enclosed restaurants. The area is home to several art galleries, and visitors can find some real bargains here. Those who love antiques will be delighted with the antique dealers located along Seventh Street. Located very nearby is the Melville Koppies Nature Reserve. This is a wonderful place to see how South Africa looked before the discovery of gold in 1886. Visitors can see an iron-smelting furnace that was excavated in 1963.
When you are planning South Africa holidays, consider visiting the Apartheid Museum to learn how this affected everyone in South Africa. Then travel to Rosebank, for some wonderful shopping bargains. Next, travel to Melville for a wonderful time exploring coffee shops, restaurants, antiques and the Melville Koppies Nature Reserve.
