On your Vietnam adventure trip there are many natural areas to visit. There are two UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites, Halong Bay and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
Halong Bay, which translated means Descending Dragon Bay, is in the Quang Ninh Province and is a popular travel destination. The bay has more than 1900 isles, and most of them are made up of limestone. Many of the islands have caves which can be visited. Two of the bigger islands, Tuan Chau and Cat Ba have permanent inhabitants and have tourist facilities.
Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park has important geological value and in 2003 the UNESCO made it a World Natural Heritage site. The park is 500 km south of Hanoi, the nation’s capital. Of its 300 caves only 20 have been surveyed. Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park includes the world’s largest cave, Son Doong Cave, which was discovered in 2009. The name translates to Mountain River Cave and has an underground river flowing in it.
The park is accessible by road and train, and there is a Tourism Service Center at Son Trach Commune. Various local travel agencies offer adventure tours. They include a boat tour up the Chay River on ho chi minh tours into old forests, tours of the many caves, ecotourism, and mountain climbing and trekking.
Include on your Vietnam adventure Cat Tien National Park, which was formed in 1998. The park reached significance when a population of the endangered Vietnamese Javan Rhinoceros was discovered. Asian Elephants and Sun Bears also reside in the park. The park lists a total of 105 mammal species, along with 360 bird species. This lowland tropical rainforest is 160 kilometers north of Ho Chi Minh City. The park and its headquarters are accessible by road from Ho Chi Minh City. Lodging and tourist facilities are available near the park.
